The Upper Barracca Gardens are situated near Castille Place and possess
unsurpassed views across the Grand Harbour over to the Three Cities.
The
origins of the Upper Barracca Gardens date back to 1661 during which time it was a
private garden belonging to the Italian Knights, whose inns of residence
(auberges) are found close by. It was only in 1824 that it was opened as a
public garden. The paths are lined with busts, statues and plaques that
chart various personalities and other significant events in Maltese
history.
The Saluting Battery is located right under the Upper Barracca
Gardens in Valletta, and guns may be viewed from the balcony overlooking
the Grand Harbour. This venue can be used for receptions and dinners with
outside catering and offers the same stunning view as the gardens.
